“Pflegestarter:innen” – nursing care training at 15+

In September 2025, the school for healthcare and nursing in Schlachthausgasse will introduce a vocational training programme in nursing and care for young people aged 15 and older in Vienna.

The programme takes 3 years to complete and will qualify participants to work as care assistants. The first year of the programme mainly provides the basic knowledge required to take up training as care assistants. In this year, participants will also be taught compulsory subjects such as Maths, German and English with a focus on their application in nursing and care contexts.

In their second year, participants will start training as care assistants and in their third year, when participants have reached the age of 17, they will complete the compulsory work placements required for care assistant training.

Admission requirements

  • Minimum age: 15 years
  • Successful completion of compulsory schooling
  • Interest in nursing and medical topics
  • Physical and mental health
  • Reliability (criminal record certificate)
  • Mandatory vaccinations for practical training
