Higher secondary schools for nursing and care

The FSW Bildungszentrum’s school for healthcare and nursing in Schlachthausgasse offers a 5-year upper secondary programme called “Pflege mit Matura”, which provides both vocational education in nursing and care and university entrance qualifications. The programme has been offered since 2021 in cooperation with the secondary school for social care and nursing (“HLSP”) of Caritas Erzdiözese Wien and, since the school year of 2023/2024, also with the secondary school for social care and nursing of the Bundesschulen Kalvarienberggasse (K17). By taking the university entrance exam at the end of the programme, students will not only be able to enter university afterwards, but they will also receive vocational qualifications to work as specialist care assistants.

Practical training takes place in different healthcare and nursing facilities in Vienna. Students who are younger than 17 years will complete social care work placements with one-on-one supervision. The regular training programme for specialist care assistants includes compulsory work placements in the fields of long-term, acute and outpatient care.

Admission requirements

• Successful completion of school year 8
• Positive school report from an academic secondary school (“AHS”) or positive school report from a middle school (“MS”) at advanced general education level (“vertiefende Allgemeinbildung”) or positive school report from a middle school at basic general education level (“grundlegende Allgemeinbildung”) plus admission test at the relevant cooperation school
• Proof of physical and mental fitness (medical certificate)
• Successful completion of the admission procedure at the HLPS and the school for healthcare and nursing
• Reliability (criminal record certificate)
• Complete immunisation records
